Hi there! Welcome to the blog, a journal of my photography, family, and adventures. Stay a while and say hello!

maternity & family portraits

Personal

When I was pregnant with Jack, I never had maternity photos taken. The best I have are bump photos taken on my phone! I still treasure them, but this spring I was really hoping to get in a maternity session. And then, you know. 2020 happened. Luckily I have a tripod and a husband who is willing to help me out when I get these crazy ideas to take our own family photos! Someday Ben and I will take photos together, but this was not that day since he had to not only focus the camera, but wrangle our almost 2 year-old and Gus. Haha. These little sessions were a lot easier when Jack wasn’t mobile and we didn’t have a dog…but I know that I’ll still treasure these.

I can’t believe how beautiful the cherry blossoms are this year. We went to the Virginia Tech Duck Pond for these and I am completely in love with the trees in our photos! My friend taught me that these cherries are called Kwanzan cherry trees. I have dreams that someday, when we have our dream home that we’ve designed and built ourselves (more on that another time!), I will have an outdoor “studio” of Kwanzan trees for spring portraits. It will be so dreamy and in my head it is absolute perfection. 🙂

I’ve said it before, but I guess I should say it again. I love fall and will always love fall portraits…but spring has my whole heart. Can you believe these colors? I love sharing this beautiful world with Jack and I can’t wait to share it with baby boy #2 so soon! Enjoy our spring/maternity portraits (and the included bloopers)!
