Hi there! Welcome to the blog, a journal of my photography, family, and adventures. Stay a while and say hello!

Families

I have a new little friend! His name is Felix and he is the best!

Before we get into how much I love this little boy and his parents, I do want to put out a disclaimer that we did this newborn session during our quarantine and felt comfortable doing so because *we have all been exposed to each other on a regular basis*. That’s all. 🙂

When Ben and I first moved to Blacksburg, we didn’t know anyone. After a week or two of us not knowing anyone, I hesitantly reached out to Melece from our church group because she kept popping up in my Facebook feed as someone that I might know. We had a lot of mutual friends, so I figured I’d be brave and put myself out there.

Two years later, she and Peter have become family. 🙂 I mean, if we go more than a week without seeing each other, something feels wrong. We say “love you” whenever we leave each others’ houses. Baymax (their papi-huahua) and Gus are almost friends. Gus still needs to learn how to settle down around him. 😅

Last summer, Melly sent me a text message. It was just a photo of a positive pregnancy test. I actually jumped off the couch, I was so excited! I called Ben, who was at work, and told him the good news. If I thought my pregnancy with Jack took forever…for some reason Melly’s took a lot longer (and not just because she had Felix at 41 weeks!). I just couldn’t wait to see their sweet little baby in person.

And let me tell you, the wait was worth it. Felix is just the most wonderful little guy. He is calm, inquisitive, and makes the best newborn faces around. He has such wonderful and wispy hair that I could just play with all day long. Watching Peter and Melly as parents has been just as beautiful. They make it look easy. I know it doesn’t feel that way, but from an outside perspective, they really seem to have it all together. Even Baymax loves Felix and gives him lots of kisses. It’s so sweet.

I loved taking these newborn photos for my favorite little family. I took some digital and a lot of film. The black & white photos kill me. I love the grain. But mostly I love the emotion they capture – the beauty of new life and new motherhood. I hope you enjoy! Ugh, I can’t wait to hold my own little newborn so soon!!

Xoxo,
Syd

I love these beginning of the roll shots.
