It may not have been their dream venue. The party was much smaller than expected. So many plans were placed on the back burner.
But do you know what? It was the most perfect little wedding filled with the greatest love there ever was.
I loved everything about Megan-Drew and John’s wedding. Though their plans changed over and over, I never heard either of them complain! The goal was always their relationship. They were so excited to be married so they decided to continue with their original wedding date in a beautiful and intimate ceremony in their first home together. Surrounded by only their parents (and me!), they were married by the pastor Megan-Drew had worked with for years.
10 people. Just 10 people in their little Craftsman-style home, celebrating love and commitment and family. As they vowed to love and cherish each other forever, I remember thinking so clearly that John and Megan don’t just love each other. They truly cherish each other. There is no doubt in my mind that John treasures Megan. He absolutely thinks the world of her. (Do yourself a favor and scroll down to see how he looked at her as they stood at the altar!) And I know that Megan adores and is completely devoted to John and their life together.
One of the things I loved so much about their wedding was that everything had a personal touch. Megan wore pearls that had been passed down through generations of women in her family. She had a penny in her shoe from the year that she and John were born. Her veil was handmade by her church choir director. Megan crocheted her bouquet and John’s boutonniere. The photos on the mantel in the living room displayed John and Megan, as well as family who couldn’t be there. A portrait of Megan’s late father overlooked the whole ceremony and it made me teary to think of him seeing his daughter marrying such a good man. Inside Megan’s dress was a small blue heart. It was from her father’s shirt. There was also a piece of white lace from her mom’s wedding dress. Megan kept her parents close the whole day.
After the beautiful ceremony (complete with the Benfield’s cat jumping on the altar not just once, but twice!), we enjoyed a breakfast buffet. John and Megan’s first date (and where he proposed a while later…you can read more about it here) was going out for breakfast, so naturally it was incorporated into their wedding. Megan also made their wedding cake! It was so delish with lemon curd between the layers. She belongs on the Great British Bake-Off, which I think the world needs another season of, right?
Celebrating Megan-Drew and John as they embarked on their journey of marriage was an honor and complete joy. I hope you can see all of the love from the best day in these pictures. Enjoy!
