Hi there! Welcome to the blog, a journal of my photography, family, and adventures. Stay a while and say hello!

Personal

A few days ago, we decided to move our bookshelves into our bedroom. (The reason behind this was a certain 3 foot tall person with blonde curly-Q hair who loves to climb.) This led to one of our walls being completely blank.

I knew I wanted to hang photographs on that wall. I toyed around with a few ideas, but I ultimately settled on black & white portraits of each member of our family – Gus included!

A new project was born and I was so excited. It turned out so much better than I could have hoped for! And I wanted to share these portraits with you all – to officially introduce you to each member of my family – the faces of Sydney Biggs Photography.

These three boys are the reason behind it all. They are my story to capture every day. And they are my inspiration to capture yours! So without further ado, here we all are.

BEN

Ben is my handsome husband. He is an electrical engineer – he specializes in control theory and underwater autonomous vehicles. He is currently getting his PhD from Virginia Tech (the reason we moved to Blacksburg). He loves everything outdoors. He loves telling dad jokes. He loves dogs. He loves dog training. He is passionate about his research and he always amazes me with how much he loves to learn! Ben is the biggest goofball and the most loving dad. I’m so lucky that he’s mine!

We love to be outside with our boys. One of our very most favorite things to do is cook together! We love trying new recipes. We love to read out loud to each other (this is new for us and it’s really great!) and we are big fans of watching “Psych” and eating Ben & Jerry’s. Just being together is the best and even though COVID has made some things hard, we love that he gets to work from home and we get to be together 24/7!

JACK

Jack is 2 years old. To quote Hamilton, he’s “just like his country, he’s young, scrappy and hungry”. πŸ˜‚ Jack is so silly! I love watching him get into things. He loves watching birds, looking for fish on our walks at the pond, and sneaking sips from my Cokes. Oops. He loves books, especially about animals. He gets his ringlets from his Grandma Biggs and his blond hair from me. He doesn’t talk much, but he loves to sing! He especially loves the theme song from “Psych” and we catch him singing, “I know, I know” to himself all the time. Jack is full of wonder and amazement and even on the hardest and most tiring days of toddlerdom, he is just the best.

MAX

Max is almost two months old! I can’t believe how quickly he is growing on us. I feel like time is moving faster with him than it did with Jack – probably because I have two to focus on these days. He is so sweet and calm. He loves to watch his hands and his brother, tolerates Gus’s kisses, and is always hungry. I love to snuggle him so much! He loves to look at my face and I already feel like there is so much understanding in his eyes. He gets it. He gets me. He has the best smiles and loves to stick out his tongue. Another Hamilton quote, “you outshine the morning sun, my son”. β˜€οΈ

GUS

Gus is our sheepadoodle puppy! He is 3/4 Poodle and 1/4 Old English Sheepdog. We named him after Burton Guster on “Psych” because Gus is just the best friend anyone could ever ask for and that’s what we wanted from our dog! He is so weird and goofy and loves to zoom around the house. He keeps Jack in giggles all day long. He loves Max and howls whenever Max cries. And he will do just about anything for a snickerdoodle.

And then there’s me.

I’m a California native living in southwest Virginia and loving it. My favorite color is sparkles! I love statement jewelry and wear it whenever I get the chance (which isn’t often because of a certain 3 foot tall toddler with blonde curly-Q hair…). I love my glasses and am proud to be a leftie! I believe that an ice cold Coca Cola can cure just about anything. πŸ™‚ Being a boy mom is one of my greatest joys in life. I discovered my passion for photography after Jack was born and I wanted to make sure I didn’t forget anything! I’ve always been the one who documented everything on my phone or with point-and-shoot cameras, so it only made sense to me to learn the ins and outs of photography. I love being behind the camera! As an English major, I was always in awe of the power that stories hold. It was my reason behind studying literature – stories have the power to affect change in each of us. We influence each other by sharing our stories. They’re what connect us to the past, the present, and our futures. I believe that photography has the same power of connection. It’s why I do what I do!

Happy Tuesday, y’all. (Never thought I’d be saying “y’all” in my lifetime, but here I am!) Make it a good one!

And if you want to have your story captured, let’s talk! I’m your girl. ☺️
