A little while ago, I wrote a post about some Portra 400 that I shot of Jack and how I felt like I had found my “forever film”.
Hahahaha. That was good. Little did I know that I would also love Portra 800 and Fuji Pro 400H just as much. And don’t even get me started on black & white. That is a whole separate love affair that I can’t wait to talk about more! But today, I’ll focus on color.
The last few weeks while we have been sheltering have been hard! It’s been hard on everyone, and in lots of different ways. I’m the kind of person who loooooves to get out of the house. A trip to the grocery store is exciting. At least once a week you can find me in Target, just roaming the aisles. It’s my natural habitat. (In college when I got stressed, I used to drive to our local Target and just wander forever until I felt better! 😂) And I also love a really good McDonald’s Coke. A lot. So not being able to leave the house as freely during this period has been hard for me. I just miss it, you know?
So a few weeks ago, during Jack’s nap, I told Ben that I needed to get out of the house and have some Sydney + Camera time. I ended up going to Hahn Gardens on Virginia Tech campus (see one of my sessions I shot here) and let myself take as many blossom photos as I wanted. I just shot and shot and shot. I also let myself take a whole roll of Fuji Pro 400H. It was a great little indulgence. 🙂
Fuji Pro 400H is a really beautiful stock with a cyan base. It’s the most popular for shooting “light and airy” portraits. I personally like a little bit more color, so I rated it a little differently than most photographers recommend and I LOVED the outcome. I can’t believe intensity and depth of the colors I got back! It was a little mind blowing.
I know learning about film and my real and undying obsession with it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s ok. If you’re not into learning about the film, you can at least see lots of beautiful photos in these posts, right? 🙂
So enjoy these blossom photos from my day out in the gardens and feel free to download them for wallpapers, if you’d like!
